Home alarm - DIY

Hi all.

After a family members house being broken into I’ve decided to update my current home alarm. Currently I have a basic non monitored alarm installed by a local company but sadly it doesn’t siren outside of the house if there’s a break in. It had the usual keypad, break sensor on front door and 4 motion sensors.

I’m looking to purchase a DIY alarm I can install myself with some help. I’ve seen the Ring door bell alarm system advertised which seem good. My criteria is, control panel, minimum of 4 sensors, door contact breaker and ideally an exterior alarm which sirens LOUD if triggered.. also a discreet interior cam for our hall way. We stay on a ground floor flat and we have only one level. I’m not looking for monitored - rather an alert system or camera that would warm me of an intruder. My budget is ideally £500.

External sounders are overrated in my opinion, they get ignored 99% of the time, unless you count the complaints from neighbors when it does go off, and they are one of the first things to go wrong. If you have an alarm installed already get someone to service it,  fit loud internal sounder (to scare anyone inside) and  a dialer to call you, it will be more reliable than a Ring system and you wont get anyone hacking into it and watching your missus in the hallway

The external sounder is what got the attention of the neighbours at my aunties break in. My current alarm does sound very loud from the panel if triggered but this wouldn’t be enough to alert neighbour etc - and I’m sure if they pull the panel off wall then then the alarm with stop beeping? It’s hardwired

The prev company I used weren’t great and I don’t want to reuse them to update this alarm. Half the time when we were monitored the company wouldn’t call for a false alarm. The camera isn’t essential - would prefer to start from scratch and get a new system.. saying that, can my existing hardwired panel be removed and replaced with a new one - and the current sensors be programmed to a new panel inc an external alarm sounder?

Find a different company.

Can't answer for why you didn't receive messages around false alarm calls, but consider that if you accidentally triggered the alarm it's possible the signal would be aborted automatically if you silenced it.

Yes, if you have a system then you should consider getting it checked out/repaired/upgraded instead of missing with useless DIY plug and play tat.

Eaton ion 40 then if it's DIY wired gives you wide options

Enforcer if you want to scrap the wired bit although better to keep wires where they work

Both can take an external bell , both require more work than you might think but are more simple than others

Ring is a door bell mostly , trying to venture into CCTV , a door bell with video , won't protect your property much

Looks like I currently have a Pyronix. Can my current panel be reprogrammed to send alerts to my mobile for any intruders without an engineer code? It sent alerts prev to my old phone number which I’ve now changed - what external alarm sounded would be best to add to my system?
