  • I think you do need them. When do you discover a part is superseded? At point of ordering? Contract review? Whenever it is you mark the part in your parts section of your system so it can’t be ad

  • My mate in does swear quite a bit tbf

  • I'm aware of them doing this in the past   TBH I'm surprised nobody picked up AM to try & do a similar thing.   I'd assume the the expertise in running an ARC could make more £

I thought I had answered thoroughly. Did you ever use reports in AM? Statistical analysis to identify anything? You possibly wouldn't have had thd best results if you were using a bit of this and that to achieve x, (not a dig) any AM user will tell you the power of those reports. Logically the asset is a move onwards and upwards.

We have a local NSI gold company that use paper only systems. Procedures are hand written and apparently immaculate, jobs are good, I guess they don't see the point in our systems. I would like some of their clientel but I don't want their work ethic.

Of course I used reports I still do for things we need to keep an eye on such as maintenance, 4hr response, who has what panel and on what type of comms.

However, I still do not get why you would need to report on every asset. Maybe its because we dont have that many products that fail? Maybe its because I have one person that handles returns that is savvy enough to notice if there was a particular product constantly failing.

If I needed to get the information you are talking about from my database I could, not as easily as you but I still could, but then again I cant think of a time I have ever needed to.

So the way I see it time saved by doing something v the time it saves you in the long run equals costed time.

Dont get me wrong I get the planning ahead part, in case something happens, but wearing your big coat in the middle of summer just in case you catch a chill is just daft.

 CASH hmm!

Your already inputting the info, so why wouldn't you?

Record the device location, type, IP address etc =asset (includes suplier, purchase, guarantee, fitter, model, firmware etc etc etc.

Recall, update, Stat analysis, KPI. All at your fingertips for NO! additional work. It's a no brainer. Fire alarm device check, all just done. Signaling device etc. All just done.

TBH there is no advantage to selling common sense you either get it or you don't.

Why make life harder than it needs to be, that's why

Having info at your fingertips is all fine and well, if you are using that info for a purpose. Like what was the turnover for last month and how much profit you made on a job. But there is no value in knowing Mrs Smith has 5 mk3 fandango flux capacitor cameras, when you can just as easily see that by looking at the PO. How often do you need to access that info quickly?

So far you not been able to give one valid reason for holding the info you hold, the way you hold it, its like you have some sort of autism. Maybe you think its impressive, I just think your working harder for no real value. Work smart not hard Jeff

Posting in a trade forum is a funny business probay due to people not wanting to admit any lack of understanding. Most AM users were all over any q asked and answered. I am pleased that I was able to help so many reduce an otherwise painful experience.

I never understood why people speced in .doc or used. xls outside of the Dbase. I suppose its just habit. We have committed to shutting down Amaster and changing to our new system which should limit the pain period to just a couple of months. It's not about what we had its about architecture of where we have to be. I said before our job sheets are the best but tech changes and there are now better ways.

Once your gone it will all be scrapped......

Well I’m 12 months on and the worst of it is I still haven’t implemented the new system.
We are still operating from Alarm Master and mirroring things on our new system. The largest single issue is transferring data, mainly as our specs, job sheets etc are not actually a doc, pdf, xls etc, they are data and therefore not easily transferable to a completely different system. The easiest thing would be to continue to have AM running but this alone is proving difficult. Asolvi have really wrapped this up. The new system should be running like a dream in let’s say 5 YEARS.
