Hi all

I wanted to know if, firstly if its possible and if so has anyone used this method. I talk about linking a power rio in an out building to the main panel with rs485 to ethernet converters. you could then link the buildings with a wireless link.

Thoughts please.

It's unlikely to work due to the gap mode packet termination used in the protocol. If it did work, then any hiccup with the network would cause a module tamper.

If it was do-able I'd argue  Honeywell would have done it by now. Very surprised that no manufacturer has, to my knowledge, these days.

So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

Doesn't work' too much latency, and the latency is variable. Watching the traffic on an rs485 datalogger its a frenzy of retries and late acks because the modules didn't see the ack in time.

Linked remote Power RIOs with fiber and convertors as per Honeywells instructions

No PMs please unless i know you or you are using this board with your proper name.

I was going to say something similar to Nova.

AMG Systems have made 485 over fibre converters for the Galaxy in the past. If its in another building might be worth seeing if they have any spare fibre cores of the buildings are linked via fibre.
