I assume when closed only gravity held it in place?

How would that be? Don't all gates have some kind of pillar or arm going over to stop that? 

 

 

Only if it's fitted. Have been other UK scenarios where a stop was left off and gate was able to come right off the rails.

So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

ain't most sliders cantilever, made in the factory & installed from a hiab ?

 

a track on the floor being the pikey way to do it ?

May not be enough room for a cantilever, they are approx. 1/3rd longer than the opening size
