Hi in the age old position of looking to have an alarm installed as some scumbags tried to break into our house last Saturday morning at 4:30 probably to get the car keys to my sporty (!) Skoda.

Anyway had a quote from a local SSAIB approved installer and was wondering if anyone could comment on the quality of the kit they are proposing to install? I don't have any problems with the firm just seeing if the equipment they are proposing is good stuff or not.

Visonic K9-80 pet tolerant detectors . We have a dog and a cat.

Optex OML-DT sensor for the garage

Texecom Premier Elite 24 (Polymer) Control Panel

Texecom Premier LCDP keypad

Any feedback you can give me gratefully received

Mike

I have the k9-85's installed at home. With a cat and a smallish terrier ,

Fitted loads over the years. Not had any issues. As long as the cat can't get within about 1mtr of the sensor you should be fine.

Can't comment on the optex or texecom as we don't use them.

Nothing against texe we have a few on the cards, just installers preference.

Go with your gut feeling on the company don't just judge them on price.

No, not you James, in a public thread....

Thanks for all the comments so far. So do I ask about a different control, panel and house sensors or is it purely personal preference? Or is it more than likely that the installer will only be using one manufacturer/supplier?

cheers

Mike

Opinions on equipment are little better than opinions on cars ect...

Somebody might have had 3rd hand astra in 1992 which always broke down & vowed never to buy a vauxhall again,

An house alarm is only just a little bit more technically advanced than house brick, the skill is in fitting it rather than speccing the bestest gear.

eg nailed to wall by a mong = problems on world beating kit...

you need to choose your installer carefully. they will have picked kit they rate etc and can support. Asking what panel is best is like asking what 4 door saloon is best etc

all have merits. None of the kit you have listed is classed as naff by pro installers. We all have our preferences mind that will always be the case

Op, it depends, I currently fit 3 makes, although tbh your budget and site type could very quickly whittle that down to one. I wouldnt, tbh, fit something I was unfamiliar with just because a customer wanted it, intruder that is anyway.

So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

Nothing wrong with the kit.

Most companies will stick to what they know and are setup for as far as remote assistance etc goes.

Get 3 quotes and go with your gut .
