Bs5839 Escape Route Definition

I Have come across this debate previously, and what you have to realise is that there is a difference between a bathroom and a WC.

If it was a room say a small office with a WC in the corner then no detector would be required in the office as the WC would be considered low risk because it is not likely that anyone will be in there for a extended period of time (normally a few minutes)

Now a en-suite in a hotel room is in my opinion different, for example a woman may go in there shave her legs, take a long bath do her hair/makeup etc you could be talking an hour + the room then is effectively a escape route which is full of electrical equipment tv's sometimes irons etc so I would fit a AFD in the space between the en suite and the exit from the bedroom.

But like many standards it is a lot about interpretation.
