  1. I need some irrefutable proof from the experts on this one since a local electronics boffin appears to doubt the integrity of the term 'two way' when related to wireless  detection. The claim, basically, is that the panel does not 'talk to' detectors,  but rather it interrogates it's own received signals from detectors, but does not  actually interrogate the detectors themselves only the received signals.

Why would detectors have a transceiver then.

  2. There's plenty of van topics here on the back half of vans but none covering the front half, and I spend more time in the front than the back. This is my Astra, its a few years old and still looking like new.

On the plastics I use Autoglym interior shampoo, followed by a wipe over with vinyl and rubber care using a microfibre cloth. All courtesy of a Halfords gift voucher last christmas.

Its buffed up nicely. Beat that Norman.

  3. "with all parameters accessable and controlled via the App"

I deliberately didnt use the word app! But I know what you mean.

But just because install may be easier doesnt mean the systems no longer need installers. Wireless rollout will happen but that fact on its own is largely irrelevant because at the same time I expect the tech gulf to widen between the very low end and the medium (grade 2 if you like) systems.

So end users will still need us, probably even more so than now. Look at the Enforcer app, companies can disconnect users who dont pay the annual fee. As a business model its not too dissimilar to monitored alarms, just different tech.

Also interesting to me is the fact that Castle charge for the custom plastic face plate (Enforcer) where others print direct onto the standard plastic cases for free. Excellent business thinking, more should do the same.

your share tip is still 24p or 40% ish down

Patience, Mr H, Patience. Efficacy is not yet proven.

  4. I'd put money on anything wired (for detection) being a technological dead end. Lithium battery power is moving fast allowing it to be incorporated into many different platforms and production is ramping up in anticipation of this, examples of this change are all around you in the media - hoovers being the obvious one.

I think 3-5 years time we'll be fitting w'free dtecs as standard with all parameters accessable and controlled via the panel/remotely with mesh tech as standard too. Even on new commercial installs.

  5. Its free of charge to the tenant, so no grounds to complain there.

The engineer is right. There are no rules/regs for coverage at this level only opinions and assessment, these form the design. The design would have been given to the buyer who must have agreed to it. Its basic, but been done to a price.

If you're not happy with the coverage the best option would be to agree to pay for extra to be added. Being wireless its a doddle. I would add that if the back door is not a timed entry zone then it does not need a contact (unless you specifically request it, for a door chime for example), none timed entry routes are usually covered with PIRs as they provide more cover.

  6. No one really knows what's going to happen, will they stay in the Euro or leave, there's even talk of possible EU exit for them now. Im not taking any chances, Ive been out and bought some olive oil and a kebab.

  7. The creditors are offering - with reform. Trouble is Greek Gov wants the money with no basically no strings. If the creditors give in then Italy, Spain will want better terms too.

Its further complicated by the fact that some of Greece's largest creditors are Italy and Spain.

  8. Obviously I'd like the whole EU thing to fail including the Euro, but as Im exposed via the markets Grexit looks like its going to cost me.

Meant to be going in AUG

Pay on your credit card and then take Euros, I would still go if it was me. As long as you're well away from Athens where the trouble is likely to be.

  9. we yellowpages, (I've no idea why)

Ding + about £80 per month in a local advertiser type mag, in doesnt bring many jobs in but the enquiries it does give us have all been decent with a high uptake.

By far the majority of our leads are recommendations, after that the net.

  10. id move the mag up and put the contact underneath too

Valid point, but I think the rsc is as close to the edge of the concrete as I was comfortable drilling with an SDS drill. Whats left of the floor paint shows the end of the level concrete after that it slopes off and gets thin. The bracket means the rsc doesnt need to be so close to the door.

  11. Back on to roller contacts, we sometimes use a metal bracket to get the magnet close enough to the contact. It also gives some vertical adjustment.

Some modern domestic roller doors are sectional (each section roughly 3-4" high) and double skined ali extrusion and for these we drill the inner only and pop rivit the magnetic on. No external visible fixings then, sorry no photo for that.
