Scantronic 9751 panel and issue with attached panic alarm

Featured Replies

Firstly, thanks for any help/advice.

I am in a rented house (in the UK) where the intruder alarm was said to be out of use, and so we haven't touched it.

The panel on the wall is a Scantronic 9751.

This morning at 2.45am, 5.30am and 5.45am the alarm sounded internally and externally. It was not set by us.

I believe the system has some panic alarms attached which may be faulty.

The wall panel now displays PANIC RESET REQUIRED PA202

What I want to know, is, in this current state is the panic alarm function disabled? (And therefore won't go off again).   That's all I need to know.

I have of course tried to contact the landlord, but they aren't very fast at dealing with issues. I just need to know whether in its current state it won't go off again as it was a big shock to us when it went off and would have made a massive nuisance for the neighbours!

Thanks again

Steve

Unfortunately Scantronic doesn't lock out the zone after it's triggered  so if the device is faulty there's nothing you can do other than put your code in when it goes off or repair it

Sadly you were right, and it went off four times overnight ?   For some reason it doesn't seem to go off in the day??

Having to get an engineer to come and sort it, one way or another, as I can't be living on edge at night. The internal alarm fitted is the most horrendous sound to be woken to!

You really should leave it to the landlord, you can create more hassle, even if it is frustrating.

You should make notes, times and dates of everything, when you reported it etc to cover yourself.

If the PA isnt pressed (I assume you have checked the window etc)

You could consider pressing it and silencing that

Depends if it's latching tho

agreed.

Maybe the OP could post a pic of the offending PA?

Fortunately, they got in touch this afternoon and are getting "their man" around tomorrow.  Got notes, times etc in emails.

After further investigation, there are two panic buttons, one in the hallway near the door and one in a bedroom, but they have been painted over (what looks like several times) when the place has been 'refreshed' over the years. Probably fitted years ago by a old owner.  We haven't touched them, and since someone is coming tomorrow we aren't going to start touching them now!  ?

Just puzzling to me why it would only happen in the dark at night, Cold temperature? Spiders?

I wouldn't worry about it as long as it is repaired.

It's hard to say what is causing the issue without inspection.

I can rule out spiders, usually panic buttons are either magnetic (reed switches) or mechanical (microswitches) but it could equally be cabling damage, moisture or a list of other issues.

Worth noting even if the system is not part of the tenancy, if it's powered up it should be checked periodically. You will have similar disturbances if batteries go faulty.

Thanks, for what it's worth, they look similar to this, but without a light. Just a screwhole in the centre and a keyhole (we don't have any keys).
