Silent NVR?

Featured Replies

Hi, looking for the quietest 8/16ch PoE NVR for installation in a residential living area. Any recommendations? Fanless? Solid state SSD drive? TIA.

I wouldn't use an ssd. You could change the fans for larger units but most need some air movement

Thanks. I assume that SSD would have a shorter life but if noise limitation is paramount, might it be a price worth paying? Can you recommend an NVR which under typical light domestic load of, say 4 cameras, would be liveable with? Of course, ideally it would be removed from the living area but in this instance it is required to be close to the TV and accessible via remote control or mouse.

Something is wrong if you have hard drives that make noise louder than ambient. SSD would not be recommended at all.

There are 4 way DVR's out there with passive cooling never seen an NVR tho due to the PoE and anything bigger would normally have a fan.

NVR/DVR fans are normally the small noisy type so you could go custom and replace the fan for a better one using the fan header.

Yes, I did consider that - but ongoing access to the front panel of the NVR is needed so there would be no escaping the disk chatter.

Y you need access ? To front ?

Use a nas drive then or a green one to reduce the noise Imo only hi speed drives are loud and you won't need it for 4 cams

For mouse or IR remote control.

Is the client or you not fussed about theft of device in that location?
