I have 2 Greenlee ones (£50+ for used one)

1 is branded "BT" & beeps when their is ADSL on the line (you don't really need this)

there isn't  much more too them than than using a cheap one piece phone,

if you do want one- this is cheap & still in the packet

Hey al: That looks like a Besson 290. Excellent phone in their day but sadly not digital safe, i had one of those for years.

Bought a BT Tele 300a to replace it, again a great phone & pretty rugged. Sadly some scumbag nicked it. Have the ACT meters mini DSP phone at the minute, does the job but very lightweight and not particularly durable.

Thanks Mr H: That's the one I've got at the moment but from ACT & as above, does the job but just not rugged enough. Think they were originally made by Greenlee.

Yep had mine for years & used regularly, until BT warned that we weren't to use them on digital lines.

Apparently if you go off hook with them on a Digital line, you can take the line down. So I got the 300 to replace it, the ACT was an eBay buy as a cheap backup.

Yeah I know mate, it's just one more thing to carry (read as forget) ;-).

Can't even remember where my 290 is. If I find it, I might chuck a filter in my Toolbag & try using that. At least they're pretty bomb proof.

one is, one isn't

You can normally hear adsl on the line, don't see why having a handset that does an alarm helps ?
