I have a 16 zone gartec alarm and working spot on

last night  a chime went and on keypad it said a door had been open 

I checked the doors and all ok 

there are 2 sets of doors on this zone both normal contacts 

set alarm as normal all ok

would it be worth replacing the 2 contacts do there go faulty over time the system will be 18 years old

Yes

Just to elaborate on the brief reply above, it probably only needs a service and new door contact.

I will get 2 new contacts and fit them and see how it goes

does it sound like a contact fault

it as been fine since

Change battery aswell
