Most are ac not dc but with this one i could be wrong

i Tthink that's not correct, while speech on most is DC, the call and lock release on 5 (4 + Call wire systems tend to be AC.

iirc BPT kit which is 4 wire (3 + 1 call wire), uses the handset ear piece as the 'ringer' which warbles when called?

tbh, why not simply use a mains connected intercom from the likes of Maplins or Henry;s Radio?

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
