In theory the PSA is a great idea but in reality it does not work

what doesn't work about it?

Unlicensed installers can install at will, drive around in sign written vans, advertise etc. Prosecutions are very rare, on average 1 per year

Fines of €400 are laughable when the license fee is 2k. With odds like this and fines equal to a days pay you can't blame them

Installers could repair or upgrade alarms due to a loop hole

Manufacturers can screen equipment for unlicensed installers

CCTV and access are due to come under the control of psa in October when they can't license intruder

It does seem daft that the fine is so low. Do you have a way of raising that point. It should be the fine that is higher than the fee. Like road tax etc.

But 2k seems steep. Is that per annum or forever?

I agree, we were NSAI then along came PSA, they do give you 2 years grace or so I beleive, however something has to be done with the industry and stop the DIY sector. All we can do is hope, I wonder if any of us on this Forum or site would be willing to help start it up. Costs bourne to ADMIN only and definatley NT FOR PROFIT. Maybe a government grant??? I have been in this industry for over 25 years and seen sme good and bad times. Would be interested in starting a proper organisation!!!

Id be up for it mate but its a lot of work. Have you thought about how approval would be granted, inspections etc etc. Id love to have a way of doing it properly but it would cost millions
