Quote taken from the NSI Website >

"ISI and NACOSS merged in 2001 to create a unified inspectorate - NSI, covering all elements of the security industry, with the goal of creating a one-stop-shop for the benefit of customers and suppliers alike."

Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.

unless I don't get the lead in the 1st place I'm unaware of loosing work due to not being "NSI Nacoss Gold"

seen one than one "Nsi Systems Silver" company using the term "Nsi Nacoss Silver"

I dont think anyone is recognized by insurance companies, approved is a different matter

Rofl! This has to be the sorest subject here, the only one guaranteed to get the big man, PJ himself, involved. Differences between nsi and ssaib now are insignificant, imo. Both allow you to install police response, and i havnt seen spec in over 10 years that says nacoss installer. Even back then, that spec request was successfully argued. Despite being a ssaib installer, my feeling is that nsi edges it on percieved respectability, but only just. However, i also feel that the general public, or for that matter anyone, really cares , as long as its a professional install.

So, therefore, ssaib/nsi comes down to personal choice, which badge do you prefer the sound of, and can you afford nsi?

Fozzie i wont say i entirely disagree. I do however know that a lot of what we do is not based on "personnel choice" rather from informed decision makers. I have included a small section from a private report produced and circulated between consultants, insurers, facilities managers and other major decision makers, who are concerned about the diffrence:

Gene rally speaking SSAIB and NSI Silver approved companies do not operate BS EN ISO 9001 certificated quality management systems. However, by way of illustration, if a company is Systems Silver approved, but has their BS EN ISO 9001 quality management system certified by another Certification Body they are NOT NACOSS Gold.

NSI is a specialist Certification Body and NACOSS Gold certification/approval against BS EN ISO 9001, NSI SSQS101 and all the relevant industry standards is a high quality, sector specific approval unique to NSI.

NACOSS Gold approval ensures that all such companies are thoroughly and regularly inspected to both ‘product’ and ‘quality management system’ standards.

Feedback from a recently conducted independent survey of industry stakeholders in 2011 indicated that NSI inspections are seen as being more thorough and robust than those offered by other certification bodies. This is important. It is not only the differences between various certifications/approvals that matter as the rigour with which Certification bodies carry out their audits/inspections matters as well.

The above illustrataes one of the reasons why major, important or prestigious contracts are awarded to NACOSS companies. Not everyone is as dumb as some would like to think.

Its good to have competition. Hopefully ssaib will be aware of that document.

They arent to suppossed to its a private study and nothing to do with the inspectorates. But so what? It spells out the truth. You and everyone else already know the diffrence. If you want a cheap, easy and stuff the quality path to Police signaling systems then join the SSAIB. I would if that was my buisness plan. Then again it says a lot about the installers ethics in everything else they do. The buyer will likely end up with a cheap easy poor quality system as well. Of course i do genralse.

Err safe than sorry?

My local council had a tender document for alarm maint which stated must be a member of one of more of BSIA, NSI or SSAIB, no mention of ISO. estimated value of £155k per year, current NSI Gold Co. was replaced by another NSI gold co.

My local City Council had a City Centre CCTV tender for 500 cameras + control rm, awarded to SSAIB / ISO co.

Whether you Gold, Silver / SSAIB with or w/o ISO or even unapproved there the common factor that security co. are normally modest small office / home office concerns.

As a ssaib installer, i trully feel that i am proffessional to the extreme, even to the cost of the company i work for.

We all have piccies of **** installs by the opposite inspectorate, and i feel that point alone destroys the content of that document, we can all name nsi golds that do not perform as that document states. I do wonder who sponsored that document, and at its authenticity, especially as its nt a general release.
