We use 2" 10" here for Panel & Bells i will also use them for call points etc.

A Co i once worked for used 3 x 8mm Rawl bolts for bells and it was a warning if you got found out using anything else.

wow

Have to admit I go a bit mad on fixings sometimes too. I don't want things coming down once they're up! Still makes me laugh when I see panels fixed to plasterboard with 1 1/2 8's and red plugs.

panels i can agree, but detectors id use yellows and inch's. Assuming the wall is sound.

tell me about it, i once swung off a low one with my hammer, and the bastid wouldn't shift. Their bells still look OK after all these years.

even i use 1 1/2" with red plugs.

on detectors?

I like the 'even i' though lol they say admitting it is the first step lol

sorry mate i know that was uncalled for.

Dont see an issue with either, agreed reds and 1.5" is better but dont see the benefit... assuming you use 2?

2 WT.F? Makes it to hard to position.

All pointless IMO, any standard plastic plug and screw fixing can be pulled out of plasterboard wall.
