Not sure what MB

Yes 2K3 - Milestone

Not sure on what raid card but i know its using raid 5

16 x 2tb sata Hitachi drives

Edited by whistle

word from the wise mate

raid 5 can only handle 1 drive failure.

32 tb will take a while to rebuild and will stress the drives.

2 drives fail and the array dies.

your talking hours and hours of rebuild time.

Also which hitachi drives, they make some craking drives.... wouldnt say the 2tb sata was one of em?

i suppose if 2k3 you could be using soft raid but i doubt it on an array that size. probably an adaptec.

id suggest hardware raid for this, and id seriously advise raid 6. But you will lose a bit of capacity.

looking at the case it has a hotswap backplane? if so there isnt 16 drives in it, you mounting some internally, if so be cautios with the cooling.

redundant psu is desirable but not essential imo, but you are likly to expereiance drive failures using comsumer drives at that duty and raid level.

but dont take that away from the fact that few will see that sort of kit let alone install it. But if its a new one for you...... good luck
