Assume you mean DVD no hard drives?

as most modern kit even cheap DVRs can be accessed via LAN and internet, most my clients do any backups password's etc. from te comfort of their PC's, easier than fanny around with the units interface

makes the bullt in cd drives bit rundant omo, not they cost much, ut the bigger guys charge fortunes

Rather have them fitted at factory, any problems can be dealt with under warranty.

In saying that have fitted a few to expand the HD capacity. IE two drives.

now we know it's the HDD, ditto - with drives sourced fro the same supplier for same warranty reasons, with exception of last upgrade as they had stopped stocking the PATA drives having gone over to SATA's .

edit = just to add for the 2 (missing brain link) halves of JedWard,

DM sold an external CD for backup (i have one), without a HD it would be a tad bloody useless, original post question was did not distinguish which drive to be with or without.

with many modern machines dropping the dvd in favour of Pen drive or network backup, it is becoming common to drop this drive, and a reason fro asking 'that' question.

Cant see any point in fitting own, dont manufacturers subsidise them if factory fit?

Cheaper to buy your own drives.

Dependent on kit, buy unit with smallest hard Drive then just add the extra capacity yourself.
