Basic - audible-only, no signalling.

Better - added SMS text messaging or dialler via the telephone line.

Better still - SMS text messaging via GSM module, (Galaxy can prioritise - tel line 1st if not available use GSM).

Even better - 24-hour monitoring to an alarm receiving centre - minimal polling soon available.

Best - 24-hour monitoring by Dualcom or Redcare GSM dual-path - full polling.

This would be the Galaxy G2-44 Only, right? And, this GSM Module is an optional extra - not standard? And will require a SIM card inside the panel?

yes you are correct, but they are both as reliable as each other ie landline/gsm

its the message centre and network that causes the delay, loss of message or expiry of message.

just dont use it as your primary signalling means is all im saying

Just to clarify - GPRS / GSM as used in Dualcom is fine as a primary signal path - but only because the transmission path itself has multiple routes via the various network routes and the GSM backup which is an integral part of it. Even then it still uses an IP or PSTN backup though.

If you do plan to use GPRS or GSM or both as your primary path you must check the signal strength locally first (for the same specific data type)!

you only want a gsm module IF you have no tel line.

If you feel you need a dual path solution then you need either a dualcom or a redcare.

WHen your installer comes round he will be able to discuss it with you, just forget about the gsm module for now.

I just had a quick check and the GSM Module is more expensive than the panel itself, by a big margin :angry2:

Yep, sure is!

Upside is that it doesn't need ongoing monitoring charges and can work from a PAYG sim card IF you don't want proper 24-hour monitoring but 24-hour monitoring is always going to be the better option.

Slightly disagree with redbull in that having a GSM module will give a type of dual-path signalling but without the advantage of the secure network paths of a conventional Dualcom or Redcare GSM unit.
