Cable Tracer

Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying an ACT 620 Cable Tracer(i think thats the number, about 99 pounds). they claim it can find cables up to a meter away!!! anyone used one? also does anyone know if there is there a device that can locate a "short" in a cable.

The ACT unit is a rebranded Progressive electronics tone and tracer kit,

Usualy a few on ebay, for

Service Engineer and all round nice bloke :-)

Probably not bad for the money, but being a brand name whore I'd get a proper Progressive one. I think CPC have them in their leaflet on offer this month for 35 quid or thereabouts.

hi RICHL,

it's made by Wavetech, i used one of these for years, it's not 'tone selective' so wont rejecte mains like the Fluke Digital but ideal to keep at hand in you tool box, so yes its good.

you will have trouble tracing in a riser with nearby mains cables or florescents, but for
