  1. Abbz, you've lost me a bit.. no ! a lot..Help me out here. "... Pyronix rarely causes issues with detector faults ..." Are you referring to the panel 'causing issues with detector faults' or are you referring to pyronix detectors in general.. I've never known a panel to cause issues with a detector.. but as usual (open to comment).
  2. Dear me, arguments again ! whatever happened to a good old fashioned dialler ?

    Hi

Hi and Welcome, I trust you are coming to Rhyl for your summer holidays.
  4. And a big hello from sunny Rhyl, every man's holiday destination.
  5. Well c'mon Dick, give us the specs.
  6. Can't think of a particular manufacturer but, anything that is IP66 or over (if there is an over ?)
  7. Went to one of these a while back. Didn't have the heart to take her money... well ! on second thoughts.
  8. Hi and Welcome, Hate to disappoint you but the so called 'bitching' usually occurs between the site 'pros' who are invariably pulling each others legs so to speak... nothing personal in their remarks.. They are a great bunch.
  9. Hello Helen, welcome to the site.
  10. None of us like to upset a newly decorated room (area)but sometimes there is just no alternative. Your eyes shall be drawn to the repair for a week or so, visitors won't be particularly bothered, after that you'll forget it ever happened.
  11. Only ever used a bracket once, very enclosed space at bottom of stairs, otherwise I wouldn't bother.
  12. You're doing well DW, no offence meant, I just couldn't understand what the double sided tape was for. I don't know what sounders you are using but, sometimes that silicone tube comes in handy to close up any obvious (and not so obvious) holes or potential rainwater entry points.. but only do this after you have finshed sorting the sounders. It may not be needed but there are still housings on the market with IP's of around 50 or less, I have one just fished from an old install, but not that old. (Always open to comment).
  13. Galaxy is not my field, tend to leave that to the pro's, but I'm thinking maybe you won't get EE tones on output two with a sounder (open to comment)..
  14. I can see the need for both items to be kept in the van for emergencies of some sort, but for the life of me Mr Happy, I can't see what they have to do with mounting a bellbox. ??? Seal the holes possibly ??? Must have missed a post somewhere.
  15. How 'close by' are the works ? one would imagine that it would be just as well to fix the fault first as last !!!
  16. Good point Datafussion, It's always worth an hour or so for a diyer to take a good look at the entire project, including the loft, before running a single cable.. it pays off in the long run. DWdave may well have a strobe on each box. I can sympathise with both sides of the argument as far as a latching strobe is concerned, However, I must come down on the side of 'latching' for this one. Can someone tell me why we are using double sided tape and silicon ?
  17. When you say 'how' what is it that concerns you ? routing the cables..mounting the sounder...connections in the panel..and so on.
  18. Dependant on the detector, the led may flash intermittently to indicate that it is functioning correctly (open to comment !!). There may be a 'disable' or 'latch' facility (good on you for using 8 core). Is the led disturbing you in some way ?
  19. Regarding power cuts; The standby battery should take over to power the system in this event and the warning device should not sound.
  20. I agree with Simlec, a dummy would probably do. but you should consider mounting the live sounder where it will generate most attention and sometimes this is at the rear of the property. If you intend using two sounders consider the output current, which could be around 4 to 5 hundred milliamps, sometimes less. This means that two sounders take 250mA and 350mA respectively for example, that's 600 milliamps which is 100 over the rated output of the panel. They may still make a noise (probably !) but it could be reduced.. and in some cases a fuse has been known to blow at the panel because of the overload. Some installers use SCB/SAB in order to reduce current draw.
  21. There are ready made mounting holes on the pir for corner or straight wall placement. It's not often that a bracket is needed except in certain circumstances. Can you mount it in the corner of a room or flat wall ? Remember to seal any other holes to prevent dust and insect ingress. Usually, the pcb needs to be removed for mounting in this way (don't lose the pcb screw)..but not always...depends on the pir.
  22. How much plaster do you need to cut in order to repair the cable ? Is there definitely no other way to re-wire the keypad via an alternative route ? I don't have the figures but my quess is that your wireless option is going to cost quite a bit. Sorry Simlec.. posted on top of you, my mistake. I agree with you.. if there is only one (or two) damaged cores... problem solved.
  23. Nova Security "....If you talking standards, the extension speaker must be heard though out the entry / exit route..." I leave 'standards' to experts like yourself, don't know anything about them..just follow my nose..most of my work these days could be called 'troubleshooting' insofar that my calls are "...my alarm's not working and the installer has gone out of business..". In the past I have completely shut down all 'entry/exit' sounders (with the exception possibly of a few 'very quiet' keypads), either by design or request, so I wouldn't really know if current regs indicate that there must be a sounder at all times on the entry exit route. It may be feasible to suggest that the absence of a sounder 'could' leave a prospective intruder guessing. I am very much in favour of 'immediate' internal sirens though.
  24. It would make even more sense if the speaker or sounder is not mounted adjacent to a end station which, amongst other things, is supposedly placed in a out-of-site location. Mounting here would simply draw attention to the location of the panel.
  25. Amps.."..Well you know I was with my install guys the other day and I said ooh come on you installies lets go and fit some smokies, heaties and a call pointy. OMG such fun. Loved it.." You have a very subtle and comical way of putting me in my place. Call me 'Smokey' or any other befitting monacle.. but do me a very big favour by dropping the 'dude' bit.. you are far more intelligent than the rabble who use that term on a daily basis.
