I'd test current passed first but yes bear in mind those days were not just nc and a lost was no If you have played with unknown circuits, outside of security panels a meter will help loads

You wire it into the dcm. Can you upload a picture of the pcb?

We will need a lot more info than that mate. Could be anything but probably not the panel itself. What does it show after an alarm?
