I don't know much about distribution (although am a qualified spark) but we are only talking a 4" square room here. I'd be sending an invoice to the carpet fitters if you haven't already; soldering the wires probably isn't the answer on it's own, you need to have the system checked. I junked my last 2 DA systems last year, both old Abacus 8 types, although felt ahead of their time with the full LCD display etc... on a small no. of zones panel I suppose, given their age. It was a slightly odd feeling that despite the 20+ year old boxes having been changed for 9651PDs (current model Eaton) the customer hadn't really gained anything other than fobs and possibly less power consumption!
