  1. Winchester!

    Southerners

Winchester is pretty much my change over point from south to north - you are only a true southerner is you live within 10 mins of a beach (which actually has Sun)..

  2. I believe EMCS are the only guys playing with it. We have a HKC 1070 on the test board, just waiting for them to send the wifi board out next week. IMO the price point for the wifi is too high though, I'm sure I was told £65 +.

dunno, without putting in too much thought I'm thinking one off connection fee of £95 + annual mon. covers our cost and retain ownership of comms (thanks to you that one)..

we charge a one off connection fee for webways which covers the equipment cost and either all of the annual cost or part of it then the annual monitoring on top of that.

if the wifi module can be used as 2B for "proper" comms then it's a no brainer i think ?  if you're an HKC user that is

what do you think of the software?  where are you buying?  can only see distributors up north who we don't have accounts with!

  3. Yeah, had their rep in and he said they have a new mold on the way, no pic sorry.

Only thing putting me off so far is the lack of ip monitoring, but he says that won't be long.

lack of support from CS?  i see they do an IP module and maybe a wifi module?

you actually put any of these in? hkc's i mean

  4. I’m in the market for a new residential alarm system, these are the systems I’m considering

    - Scantronic i-on160EX

    - Electronics Line iConnect 2-way

    - Risco LightSYS2 (or Agility 3)

I need a hybrid system since I’m considering the replacement if my existing wired system.

The challenge I’m having is that I want to install this system myself.  I’m not an ‘installer’ but have installed alarms in the past, including the Cytech Comfort system so am used to the complexities involved and complex configurations.  I’m a self-confessed home-automation geek with 25+ years experience in data/telcoms too.  So whilst I appreciate some/most endusers need the help of a professional installer, that's not me.

So I initially favoured the Scantronic but them found-out that the manufacturer doesn’t play-nice with endusers (i.e. no access to support or critically for me, software updates).

I can’t find the iConnect for sale in the UK anywhere.

And I’m not sure about the enduser support policy with Risco (although I can at least get the installation PDFs from their website which is better than Scantronic, but I can’t seem to download the software/firmware).  Also I can't find this product for supply-only sale in the UK.

Any thoughts most appreciated, in relation to support/upgrade access.

    Thanks in advance.

Why not stick with Cytech, they're very well supported in forums etc.. If you can work one of those then you should be fine with most other panels..

  5. tbh I'm a messy worker I have kit and tools all over but always clean up at the end

One of my pet hates. I'm forever keeping work area as tidy as possible.

We pick up off cuts from zip ties on site and sweep areas we've been working - most foreman can't believe it..

  6.

Plus we lay mats on area we work and blue shoes and we tidy as we go which means hoovering as were drilling and etc.

we do this anyway but not neccessarily for the customer benefit, it just speeds the job up, ie no mega clean up at the end.

I think flowers are a bit OTT. My wife got flowers with a car once but £30 is no biggie when you're buying a car.
