  1. We have 2 or 3 electricians who we work with and they will always put the spurs in for us and test.  I actively use the fact we do not install the spurs (as we're not qualified and/or more importantly competent ) and those other firms just chucking in spurs are probably breaking the law.

Those non-electricians who install spurs - do you test the work you've done and do the paperwork etc?  Thought not.

  2. We have an old version of cash (old company) running on a nas drive for viewing purposes. Does this help or remotely mean what you are talking about? :)

AM currently runs on a new fancy pants all in one but it has a small (compared to normal) SSD.  I could do with moving the correspondence file elsewhere as it's by far the largest folder and we have loads of space on our NAS.

  3. Hi

What is the better option a Texecom Premier Elite wired alarm or a wireless alarm?

I have been offered the Texecom Premier Elite Alarm with the following installed with an unswitched fused spur for £740

    Control Panel

    Keypad

    5 PIR's

    1 Door Contact

    1  Outdoor Siren

    2 Proximity Tags

    NSI Certificate

Minor Works Certificate for a fused spur required for control panel

Using the same kit by the sounds of it, we are just over £100 dearer and you'd need an electrician to install the spur on top of that and then there's VAT.  It's a very good price (depending where you are in the UK and even more if that price includes VAT) as long as they install it properly.

  4. i think you should look after your own workforce first if thats what you mean

I do and sometimes that means picking up sub work when we're quiet. The last 12 months of jobs (1 hand???) have been more about keeping up relationships (sometimes at cost I'll admit) rather than requiring work but I'm not one to burn bridges. Who knows what will happen!

  5. one or the whole chain

One which came from you guys a while back mate, you know how the national accounts merry go round works.. When I started 5 years ago was all stubby work now we do a job every job now and then - we struggle to do a good enough job (to our standards) in the hours given.

This particular client we've done maybe 4 or 5 new stores

    one or the whole chain

Just to be clear it's sub request.. Sorry I know you don't like that capitalist type of working..

  6. I've seen the prices available for texe gear on the net and we're talking minute margins - almost at trade price sometimes and If they're not getting a huge distributer discount then it can't be worth it unless it's a loss leader to other more profit ale product. Saying that I see how far we push our distributors on price and am amazed how far they move.. It's dog eat dog from the top to the bottom... We stopped making money on kit a long time ago.. We are busy and profitable and it ain't from shifting white boxes!

  7. within outlook there is the "out the office assistant" will allow you these time conditions ?

There is the option to start and end but not on a hourly/daily schedule - it would work out of the box but I'd have to manually change the dates everyday which isn't really automated..

  8. I want to setup an auto reply from our main email address from 1700-0900 & weekends to say "office closed, please call X for out of hours emergency - this email will not be dealt with outside of office hours" or something like that..

I can't see the option anywhere to automatically do this everyday & weekends - any ideas?

  9.  don't like the idea of all AIO pc's

That's why I bought Dell with extra warranties blah blah..  Next day on site fix.  Since we started in 2008 we've always bought Dell except one laptop which was HP.  Will always buy Dell from now on..

It's a cracking bit of kit

  10. We had been running exchange 2003 for years, we moved to cloud about 4 months ago. We now have one less machine running in the office.

We're obviously small compared to a lot on here but I'm in the process of sorting out our small IT system.  Currently running 2 tower PC's, a NAS and an old laptop as UDL server.  Just received a new Dell AIO (thanks to Jef recommendation) and will replace our other PC at some point with another one of these.  We are just about to run some CAT6's into the office for our 2 PoE phones and WAP.  Then remote from Office in a cab we'll have the NAS, UDL server, PoE switch & router on UPS.  All email is cloud based exchange.  It works OK as it is but the new setup will be more compact, quicker, cheaper to run and hopefully more efficient.

  11. Hi, I am new to this site so first time post.

I was called to a faulty panel, which I took out remembering to mark where the wiring went in the box. A replacement came this morning and I have fitted it carefully putting the wires in the right slots including the remote panel. I connected the battery with the tamper spring down and got nothing when I let  the spring go causing a tamper. thinking the battery was flat I closed the tamper spring again and connected the power and I got the power light on, released the tamper spring and got nothing, no beeps no siren. can anyone please help put me right,

    Thanks

    David.

I got plenty of advice but you won't like any of it.
