  1. Hi Steven,

    I hope you are well.

    I have only recently returned to the forum so would have liked to reply sooner.

    My understanding on the difference between HD-SDI, CVI and TVI is as follows;

    CVI: Live = 1080P Real-time

           Recording= 720p 12fps

           Playback = Single Channel

           Signal = analogue

    TVI: Live = 1080P Real-time

           Recording = 1080p 12fps

           Playback = Single Channel

           Signal = analogue

    SDI: Live = 1080P Real-time

           Recording = 1080p 25fps

           Playback = All Channels

           Signal = Digital

    Do to sum up, HD-SDI stands for (High Definition, Serial Digital Interface. I feel TVI and CVI are more gimmicks created of the back end of HD-SDI.

    TVI was created by Hikvision which can be run using both RG59 or CAT5.

    CVI was created by Dahua will lesser quality and more restrictions than TVI.

    SDI is true digital. You are restricted to use only RG59 or shotgun to around 100m runs depending on the quality of cable.

    TVI and CVI will not work with HD-SDI systems. So if you purchase a very cost effective "1080P" TVI camera, you HAVE to purchase a TVI DVR for it to work.

    So it would seem CVI and TVI were created by some of the bigger players for them to have some sort of control on this section of the market, fair enough.

    SDI is the best in terms of performance i would say but i feel TVI and even CVI will be handy on jobs where re cabling is not an option perhaps.

    Again, do not take this for complete fact, but i have done my own research and used different units in the past, the above is what i found.

    In relation to the Alliance Tribrid unit, it would seem you are restricted on what channels can be analogue or TVI etc.

    Luxrite offer a UNIVERSAL VECTUS DVR which will support analogue or HD-SDI in ANY channel, in ANY variation you want, so a full hybrid.

    Hope this helps.

    cheers LuxRob nice one!

  2. Hi, i am new to the cctv business, well i being doing it for 2 years now... done about 12 installations already, so i hope i could answer your questions, well this is how i do it...

    I dont use a app but instead I use a paper template for the cctv survey, where i take notes for each camera that is required or that needs installed.

    at the same time, i have a laser measurement tool, so i can measure roughly how much cabling or conduit i will need for each camera...

    At the back of the paper, I do a quick drawing of the floor plan, so i can transfer that drawing later in my office to edraw program for more professional finish.

    for quotating a use mhelpdesk is a web-base estimates, invoicing.  I could use the app on my fone, pc or ipad..for road editing and emailing.

    i enclosed a pdf file, that looks very similar to mine, but is very useful

    hope this help anyone, and i look forward to other installer methods to make our life easier.

    Nice pdf mate, thanks for sharing  :)

  3. I am thinking about doing this but then that makes it our problem, not the customer.

    We have a problem with a system, I am being told by many ppl that one of the issues is the network and the homehub. I want to try to eliminate the problem by putting a better router in to see what happens.

    Would imagine it being a little difficult asking a customer to swap their BT hub for a different router.

  4.

    Sounds wrong, It makes it look like there is an incentive to push for things that would not need be replaced, just for the commission

    That's like saying every battery backup I swap, I will get £5 or £10 for.... If the job genuinely needed it, then the job must have it regardless.

    This happens at our place. £5 for a battery replacement. Service engineers also get commission for any Pir's they replace which like you say seems daft when it requires replacing anyway, just encouraging more blagging. Business is business though and i guess the figures make sense to the accountants. I suspect the customers would be far from pleased if the ever found out though.

  5. Aren't dusters baaad mkayy? because they lint?

    I guess best to use chamois or e-cloth?

    Just ordered some of that expensive fluid meguirs stuff from Amazon :)

    Domes were cleaned by the customer after being covered by cobwebs. The cobwebs also reflected the ir's making the cameras useless.

    He's now saying what is this tat you cannot even wipe with a cloth.

  6. How you using it? Spray water first? A very fine cloth to wipe? Only ask as we've just had a mare with external domes that were very slightly scratched whilst cleaning with a duster and when the ir's come on at night the reflect on the scratches.

  7. If youre still after something to clean the dome plastics,

    Give this a try, (Meguiars Plast R-X Plastic)

    We have used it on a few dome plastics and it works a treat,

    I keep a bottle in the van for servicing,

    !! Remember !! Test a small area first, I aint gonna be responsible for fooked covers

    You still using this mate?

    Anyone know of a better product?
