Recentley had probs with the Visonic Duo DT with tamper faults - yet a resistance check at the panel shows a couple of ohms replace the detector pcb and the fault clears - this problem has occured using end of line and DP configs - metering the faulty pcb tamper shows ok - had this happen on 3 detectors this week. reckon I'll send the lot back to the supplier. Anybody else had this broblem ?

After a year or so of looking for a job in alarms, I've decided to call it a day. I'm getting tired of people promising me things and then never getting back to me and it's not doing my confidence any good. Although I suppose that's the way it is, I can't look forever. I just thought I'd take this opportunity to thank you all for your advice over the last year or two. This is a great place for information, with some proper characters to boot. Thanks again, Scott PS: Whistle, if you still need a lift in the summer, just get in touch with me

Hi All, We have recently been installing systems into newley built Barratt Homes on two seperate sites. All these homes were supposed to be pre wired for the intruder alarms but when surveying there were a lot of cables missing e.g. 7 where control panel was going but only two showing. We spoke to the project managers on both sites who assured us no probs they will show us where all the cables are but after a lot of digging they had to admit they could not locate them. I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same probs with these pre wired houses. We have done loads for other companys with no probs.. Nick

I am trying to source some fairly posh looking mounting posts for a prox reader. They have to be in polished stainless steel and have an L-shaped appearance with a hollow centre for wiring. Does anyone have any suggestions and prices?

  9. I was talking to one of my workmates the other day, and he mentioned this to me. All the lads from our company went on a 1 day course to learn about iD panels and stuff and there was one guy there that fits cheapo alarms on the side. One of our engineers got talking to him, and the guy said to him "Never connect the earth wire; that's the one that gives you the shock!" He was being deadly serious aswell! Later on, we found out that he wires the fuse in an FCU through the neutral instead of the live

I have a fault with my Scantronic 9800 system which intermittantly goes into full alarm mode even when unset. I suspect that the main cct board is at fault and want to know if there is a direct replacement for it. It was installed nearly 10 years ago so I guess it has done well. There are 3 PIR detectors, 1 magnetic door contact, 1 external bell/strobe, an RKP and an internal siren connected. As I would not have access to engineers codes for any replacement, what restrictions would apply when installing the new panel?

I'm talking with a few installers about replacing an alarm system. First installer has proposed Galaxy 18 with Redcare GSM (I cannot get a Dualcom signal which I found odd), utilising 12 zones in all, replacing the existing 4 PIRs with dualtechs, 4 door magnets, 2 vibration detectors, and a couple of new keypads. I have been quoted 3 days to do the install and they are suggesting using the existing PIR cabling (as it should be fine). There will be new cable for 1 additional PIR. I've been informed that they need to use 100m of shielded 6 core twisted data cable for linking the keypads to the control panel. I asked if I could give them a roll of cat5e but not sure if that'…

Well, i'm in need of a moan. And i'm going to do it here (if thats ok with u guys). There is this rule at our place were only 1 person can go on holiday at once, 2 in extreme cases... Well... that is unless you are the gaffer and your going on holiday with 2 others that work for you and they are related to you. Now there are 3 engineers off at once. In theory, this shouldn't cause a problem. But they want us to bust our asses off all week doing 4 jobs plus squeezing in any faults/rips that may pop up. Well brassed off. Also, I've got to be on call this week (so will be proper knackered). And to top it all off, salesman told 1 of my customers for tomorrow that i wil…

I witnessed an act of all too common bodgery on Saturday as i watched a Sky 'installer' put in a dish etc for a house opposite me. Fair enough least he was using a level to get the bracket level, but thats where the neatness ended. The cable job was probably the funniest thing to see, none of this messing about going through roof space to get to other side of house, it was cowboy style throw it OVER the roof. Yes i know im going to be told they arent allowed to go in lofts but that really does annoy me just chucking the cable over the roof it is bodgy beyond belief. The final bit that ok may not be as bad, but winds me up, is securing the cable to the dish with one…
