BT RedCare

Featured Replies

On June 9th 2004 British Telecom introduced plans for a new optical fibre network for very high-speed communications using the Internet Protocol (IP). BT plans to replace the majority of the current network with IP telephony over the next four to five years, with an investment of two billion pounds per annum.

This new network will provide high quality, resilient communications and enhance the capabilities for sending IP security information with lower costs.

Copper circuits are now the bottleneck for high-speed transmission. Optical fibre will replace most of the copper between the exchange and premises improving the transmission speeds dramatically. With over 4 million broadband connections already installed, the move to a nationwide IP infrastructure is well under way.
