PIR's in zone 4 not working

Featured Replies

I recently found that the keypad on my Optima XM alarm was not working. I have changed the battery and managed to get it working. After doing this I decided to do a walk test to confirm that everything was working. Everything is working except zone 4 which has a PIR on the landing and a PIR in the kitchen. The PIR's both flash when I walk past but do not trigger the alarm.
All connections appear to be OK
The system was installed by builder 20 years ago and has worked well throughout (2 new batteries)
Is it likely to be a faulty PIR?
How do I find out which one?
Thanks

  • the thieves guild used to have burglary as a 2 man job, sensors wired in parallel would detect 2 men in the 2 separate rooms at the same time.   I blame thatcher for breaking the unions ever

yes wire it in correctly. and use a latching sensor.

You could link the alarm sensor contacts manually to check there's no cable fault

I assume it sets otherwise

Thanks, will these be the red/yellow wires at the sensor?

I assume that I leave the other 4 wires connected to the sensor?

James, I assume that it has always worked since they flashed has I walked past them and the system armed etc.

I've not done a walk through test until today.

All the zones are being used.

The landing sensor is probably least important.

I'm not confident about messing with the spaghetti in the box, could I wire through at the sensor?

  • Author

I have disconnected the landing sensor in the box and the kitchen now works.

I now have the following

Zone 1 - Front door contact sensor

Zone 2 - PIR

Zone 3 - PIR

Zone 4 - PIR

Zone 5 - 3 doors with contact sensors

Zone 6 - PIR

Unused PIR on landing

Do I have any options for landing PIR?

yes wire it in correctly. and use a latching sensor.
