Please bear with me. I'm getting a telecom premier elite 48w which has I think 4 areas and many more zones.

I assume you can set each zone independantly ie entry, walk through etc. what is the point of areas therefore?

You can group a collection of circuits into it's own area, ie an out building etc

Yes.

Terms vary between manufactures.

Zone = An alarm detection circuit

Area = A group of Zones, can be armed as if they were a separate system. (E.G 'The House', 'The Garage', 'The Shed')

Part Set = A way of quickly omitting zones within an Area before arming. (E.G omitting upstairs zones of 'The House' Area)
