I'd say you're going to need to reinstall the audio drivers.

Does Spybot have something like a Quarantine area. When I run adaware I always quarantine stuff until Im sure I dont need it. If the system goes screwy I restore the quarantine.

Have you checked that system sounds have not been switch off in "Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices - Sounds"?

you have got midi (wave) enabled and turned up in volume control?

If you don't know......ask.

Have you tried re-installing or updating your sound card drivers?

What make of sound card is it?
