Omnicron 7000 Issue

Hi

 

I have recently moved into rental accommodation on a 6-month lease.  There is an alarm system in place but which is not (according to the letting agent) working.

 

I downloaded the user guide for it, reset it to factory, added a new user PIN, and attempted to arm it.

 

Not surprisingly, things didn't go according to plan, and I have 1 of the 4 zones showing an error when trying to arm the system. After setting the system to chime, I have identified the problematic zone.

 

What I have is a PIR which reacts (red tell-tale light comes on) but does not chime (all the other sensors chime).

 

I have two questions:

 

1 - does this indicate a problem with the sensor, or the circuit (i.e. wiring)?

2 - if it is the sensor, what replacement should I look for?

 

If I'm swapping in a new sensor, I suspect I may need further advice/instruction, but will wait until later for that.

It could be either the cable and/or the wiring.

You need to test the cable and the sensor to diagnose further.

Remove the wiring from the cct and replace with a link, if it cures it then it's the PIR or wiring. Also worth replacing the battery if it's over 4 years old.

Then short the wiring at the PIR if that cures it then look at replacing the PIR.

Thanks for the responses so far. No idea why the image of the PIR is out by 90 degrees, as the camera was upright and the image was correct on screen...  Ah, well. At least it should demonstrate the age of the sensor...

 

 

Norman - I assume you to mean disconnect the PIR wiring at the control box. If that is correct, what do I require as a link?  Also, when you refer to battery, is that the backup battery that (I assume) is within the control panel?  What sources are their for replacements these days?

 

 

Another thought that has occured is that, given the age of this system, should I disable the zone, so that I can proceed to test the rest of the system? My thinking here is that its not worth spending money on it only to discover that there are other faults.

Pop onto Security Warehouse and get yourself 4 nice new Siemens e-line detectors.

 

As it is I think you'll end up with a False Alarm nightmare, which is probably why it was disconnected

or disabled in the first place!

Thanks DD - they seem to be within my limited budget.  Can you suggest replacement door contacts as well - I've had a shufti through the Security Warehouse site, but have no functional understanding of the differences between the various offerings.
