When We No Longer Have Nsi/ssaib Will We Run Our Arcs From India?

Now now, racialist.

The thing that brought it to my mind was my VMware support using three countries to provide support and as a customer what benefit I felt that brought.

I read an article on a company called Moneypenny who are a call centre in north wales and they have just opened a place in New Zealand so they can do 24/7 operations but each office works in their own daytime and with the time shift of using 2 countries can provide a decent service 24/7. Just make me think what stops us doing the same?

Isn't labour one of the big overheads though?

>> You beat me to it Matt.

I did the maths when the guy from NSI was getting difficult about my 'radical' ways of running an arc. The way I see it is the only thing that stops me running an arc in downtown India is arcs have to be 5979 approved which on its own doesn't mean has to be operated in the uk but I presume neither inspectorate would approved outside of the UK. Visual verification bins the need for 5979 as type b calls can be passed to the police by non approved means which means Indian arcs would be very possible. The Philippines is another outsourcing economy that's growing at rapid rate.

Made me think, inspectorate approval aside, what would stop someone like adt who have arcs and supports centres in multiple countries doing what VMware do?

Matt, if the regulations are going all European, then does that mean the ARC's can be pushed out over Europe ?  That would be the first move - right ?

Agreed, but as post above would an inspectorate certify outside UK shores? The way things are going this will become an irrelevant question. I can't see anywhere in the rules that says the arc or installer must be based in the uk. Could we then open up our installer and monitoring centres to other eu member states. After all, isn't that the point of the eu and our move to eu standards?

None at all. Although my den is in Manchester you are correct in that technology wise there is nothing at all stopping me dispatching alarms from the shed.

There are plenty of enterprises that had humble origins in garages and sheds...

I think you'd see plenty of business from Eastern Europe ARC wise.   I'm now seeing about 20% of customers self monitoring from Eastern Europe.  They seem to love the Honeywell Galaxy products - even though they are paying about twice the price for them.

Danger for us all don't you think? The us has been hit hard by outsourcing and I think eu countries are next on India's target list. Why couldn't resolve move out there too?

With outsourcing and automation the future for us white uk based guys looks a bit bleak?

MAS already has tons of language packs for various countries and already has UL approval. I suppose the reality there isn't a bar for us operating further afield, just never though about it. It's like the monitoring platform you have made. Doesn't matter to you if the signals are coming from Manchester or the moon. As long as there is internet connectivity it is irrelevant. I wonder if the bloke that invented the internet could ever imagine what a small place that technology would make the world become?

I wouldn't worry too much, with the us and the puppet uk looking to invade every country and rape it for its resources shifting arcs might seem a risk, what would you do when gi joe storms the shed and demands your mas password....
