September 10, 201312 yr comment_344392 I have installed 4 cameras ,longest run 100 metres , But the pictures are poor is this due to me using only two of the wires for + and two for - , the cat 5 cable is solid copper , I have used this before to longer runs , with 4 for + and 4 for - , and it worked fine, is there a limit o the distance per how many wires you use. Any help would be appreciated. September 10, 201312 yr comment_344400 I would never use cat5 to power cameras. Rip the cabling back out and install proper cable for the best results. ! September 10, 201312 yr comment_344401 Going off the above post, I'm hoping you have used baluns for it, not just connected the ends to the video signal and hoped for the best ? Sounds daft, But had to ask... Explain exactly how you have connected them up then we can go from there Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/35289-cat-5-question/#findComment-344401 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 September 10, 201312 yr Author comment_344406 Yes the connection is baluns with a seperate PSU for power running 4 cameras at 1 amp each all on a seperate cable not using the cat 5 for anything other than picture. September 10, 201312 yr Author comment_344408 I have not been very clear , here goes The cameras are powered by separate cable ( not cat 5) and PSU. The cat 5 cable has 8 wires which I have used on 2 cameras, 2 to + 2 to- and same for the second camera. Should I have used 1 cable using 4 per camera ? September 10, 201312 yr comment_344410 We have done this for well over 200m on cat 5 with baluns. Infact I am powering up a Pelco dome tomorrow that's on cat 5 and that's 300m from an axis Q7401 encoder. September 10, 201312 yr Author comment_344412 How many of the wires would you connect to the balun , I have used 2 per terminal over 100 meters. And should I have done this differently.
