Same way you can bypass the BWF, just stick the tags for bold ect. in the middle of the word you want to bypass.

if you replace the ( with a [ you are telling to forum software to apply italics to the bit between the i's. As there is nothing it cant.

Common spamming trick where people also hide urls etc.
