September 9, 200817 yr comment_210081 Hi I work at a CoOp Store and our alarm is managed by co ops sunwin security company. Im sure the system is a honeywell galaxy, and the keypad is definitely the one in the corner of this websites homepage. There are 2 dual push panic buttons under the tills, and i was sat near one n accidentally pushed it with my knee, not all way in to my knowledge. The keypad started to to make the sound it makes when you enter the store to deactivate the alarm, every few seconds, but im not sure if it only made the sound when the door opened. I went to the keypad and it didnt say anything different on the screen, so i typed in the code and pressed ent, it then said something like HOCH LIVE, im not sure and i pressed right and i think PANIC ALARM flashed upon the screen, i pressed esc and everything went back to normal. Sunwin didnt ring and there was no police response. If someone could tell me did i actually press it? or was this some kind of fault. We were told it was a silent alarm too, and i didnt think we were able to cancel a pa if it was indeed one. Thankyou in advance philip Edited September 9, 200817 yr by philipsimpson Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/24707-did-i-press-the-panic-button/ Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
 Thankyou in advance philip I doubt that you pushed it, it would be very difficult if not impossible to activate a dual push PA with your knee unless you had knees like a chicken and you used both of them at the same time! I don't know enough about Galaxy panels to tell you what the keypad message meant though but perhaps somebody more knowledgeable will. September 10, 200817 yr comment_210084 a pa circuit on any alarm is instant, as Landowner says it would be difficult to push a double push pa button accidentially. both buttons on the device need to be pushed together for the device to operate..so if you had hit the pa, silent or not, the security company would know about it, and as of to my knowledge to date it does not need to be confirmed(i may be incorrect) so someone would have definitely responded..... September 10, 200817 yr comment_210092 PA buttons neednt be instant, there are PA delays etc on a gal, you may have pressed it but as above i doubt it with a double push./ Of course it could be an audible only one with another member of staff confirming it before pressing their police pa etc. Depends on your setup and we are only guessing. In this case id sugest you contact SSS with your concerns and id also suggest you get some training booked for yourself at least. September 10, 200817 yr comment_210095 I'd also suggest looking on the underside of the device. You will probably notice a keyhole along with a small square plastic panel. If this plastic panel is coloured green / yellow / white? then it has either not been activated or has been reset since. If it is red or orange then it has been activated. It is important that you arrange to get the PA reset if it is showing red or orange so as to ensure your security in case of needing to activate it. Contact your security provider for guidance. September 10, 200817 yr Author comment_210100 Thanks Guys, no the pa was still green but i put the key in anyway to see if it would move or anything. i will report it to sunwin and see what they say. We were told that it was a silent alarm though, could this have been some kind of fault? I did notice in the office there is a wire that has panic button written on it but its not connected its just hanging loose, could this be causing problems? The alarm was only fitted in February so i dont think it was taken out, maybe forgotten? September 10, 200817 yr comment_210101 As above we have no idea. You need to speak to your service company. It could be a wire for the PA (public announcement) system. September 10, 200817 yr comment_210102 at a guess, i'd say when you caught it with your knee you triggered a tamper contact, all devices should be protected aginst the lid being removed. the tamper contact might be badly adjusted so call you alarm company to check it and its proper operation as a panic button, against its system design protocols. safe is beter than sorry, especially with emergency/staff safety devices. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! September 10, 200817 yr comment_210115 not entirly accutare Arfur IMO. Depends on the age of it. New G3 systems agreed. being a Honeywell Galaxie, so i'm personaly not sure how it reacts or reports such a problem, never worked on one. i bow totally to your knowledge of the panel so just asking out of an 'engineers' natural curiousity how would it respond, even on the older systems for a pa tamper or is not common practice to wire in the lid tamper is what you mean? just seemed logical to me he has knocked the push, it's not fully tripped into alarm but he got local warnings as i'd have expected from most panels regardles of grade , depending who wired it of course . another reason may be by sheer coincidence and what he had was say a mains fail or line fault intication regs alan Edited September 10, 200817 yr by arfur mo If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
