Private Use Opt Out Question

if its in your possestion your going to get charged for it somehow

Jesus did you not read what I copied from the HMRC website ???

HMRC web site info From 6 April 2005, a lot of people will no longer have to pay tax on their company van. You will only pay tax if you use the van for private journeys other than journeys between home and work. If you are affected by this, please talk to your employer then get in touch with us so we can change your tax code to make sure you pay the right amount of tax.

What if I only use the van for work journeys?

If the only journeys you make in the van are work journeys

So, come on then. Where exactly is 'work'??

This is fundamental to advice giiven. At the moment you are being somewhat selective in the info you use from HMRC. The page you quoted tells you exactly what info the Employee needs and action to take.

For the final time be polite, please!

This is a security forum not a tax forum.

If you continue like this the conversation will end.

Everybody is trying to help OK.

Thanks,

Sorry I'm not trying to start a war or anything, I was just asking what other people had been asked when they opted out of private use of the company van

But then I get accused of using the van after hours then a post went on about stealing stock from the van but that post has been edited now! I don't need to know about the self employed bit as I'm not I'm on the cards :D

All I was after was what other people had been asked

OK.

appreciate the comments are not specific to you but attempting to answer the questions asked.

you "could" be using the van 24/7 and therfor your employer "could" be seeking further info for their own purposes.

we do not know you, your employer nor the relationship you have together so because of this answers are based on what you say and equally what you don't. To little info can be as bad as too much.

I think the topic has been done to death and best advice would be from a more specialised source such as HMRC by telephone.

C.

To be fair Gus, all the answers are there to see on the HMRC web site.

and if you dont like what you see there - just ask around till you get an answer you do like ? - LOL

re your question about "define work / home" - do you take delivery of stock at home?
