Chirruping A1 Omnicrom 8000?

Featured Replies

2 night's ago we heard an intermittent high pitched 'chirrup' on our landing. At first thought this was due to our smoke alarms nearby - but have now removed them and electrically isolated them - manufacturer says it can't be them [EI 150 ionisation smoke alarms], so must be something else.

We moved into hous a year ago - and only other thing we know about is the Intruder Alarm - A1 Omnicrom 8000 - which is powered up, but we don't use it.

Any ideas? The chgirruping is now now almost continuous, whereas it was originally well spaced out.

Thanks

Brian

have you actually established where the noise is coming from before we all blindly try to guess what it could be "if" it's actually the alarm because regardless what you have been told this sounds EXACTLY like a smoke detector with a dying battery?

Thats what I first thought - its coming from the ceiling in the landing area, near to one of the two smoke detector positions - however I have removed all 3 of all of them, just leaving the base plates - and isolated the RCD switch. The only other equpt on ceiling is the landing light!

I've checked the loft - and noise is fainter, so its not there.

I've tried isolating all power to the house - with no effect - so that does suggest its battery powered.

Thanks for reply

Most of the modern smoke detectors have a battery in them as well. (Sometimes you can't see it as it's a lithium cell inside)

Put the detectors in the garage just to make certain it's not them!

QFA

Twice this year Ive had callouts despite customer insisting its isnt/cant possibly be a smoke detector.

1st one: found a smoke buried under shoes in cupboard under stairs. Been there years.

2nd: customer had bought & fitted new smoke on landing and left old one in airing cupboard, battery still connected.

had already done that -

Sorry for troubling you guys - a neighbour home from work has found the source! He heard it as the landing FLOOR - I am totally deaf in one ear - so can't locate sounds accurately - and lo and behold on moving a cardboard box of toys for our grandson, we spotted our 'battery operated' front door bell chime! - now kicking ourselves for not thinking of that!

Thanks for your relies
