Remote Viewing Of Cctv

Featured Replies

Need help understanding remote viewing of a DVR.

Simple as possible as I have a real black spot when it comes to computers and networking etc.

Spoke to a supplier today and they wanted to sell me a dedicated router and a package deal etc but I'm sure there is an easier way if the customer has a pc on site?

Please explain in simple terms...

Simplest way is with a router and a fixed ip address from the internet provider.

I always use a Netgear DG834 simply because I have the instructions on how to set it up with a DM machine.

If when you say remote view you simply mean with the PC on site then all that is needed is a crossover cable between the DVR and PC.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

Hi Chris,

some makers (such as LJD) supply a router in a deal price which is pre-configuered by them to forward ports to the DVR.

often 3 or 4 ports are involved usually Video, Audio and PTZ Control. they effectively act as 'tunnels' from the outside world into the DVR.

knowing the fixed ip address of the site, you type that into you explorer bar or as with LJD there viewer software, then you enter the user name and password, if correct you are given access.

try typing 'port forwarding' into google, and you will see several sites dedicated to routers which exsplains it more fully how its done on different models.

also look on ezcctv.com/support for good downloads to look at from an excellent company with superb tech support, they even offer free training and remote assistance. they base their kit on geovision, big advantage is, you don't need a fixed ip for remote access with it.

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

This can be achieved very easy as we do it all the time with different bits of kit and once you get the basics of networking kit away you go.
