  1. Another pint to you Andyha. And thanks for example to those who was bit crying here that 11 questions is too much to answer, but actually it's done with a line per question and this what I need. I need to expand my general knowledge of this before I will be in similar role even if as trainee (and no one need to comment on this). I have looked at this before, but i thought its bit pricey for individual, so I was maybe waiting until I get position in company that has it to read through, but probably I will need to get it in advance. Not quite sure what we are talking about 'guideline document from NSI, BSIA and ABI' ? maybe any one can direct me to it? instead I trying to dig a needle in hay stack. I'll give a try any way. B) on going. C) on going. 1. I guess I was asking for design examples to see how this looks like that I could make a picture in my head of it. But otherwise I don't need to worry if there is design notes to complete setting it up. 4. OK, i will have this in my mind that something else I need to go through. Does this have exact name as a thing? Signaling... ?
  2. You have an upvote for this. Well done thanks, I need to look through it. Seems that I have missed this somehow previously.
  3. I really don't understand what are you trying to prove with your posts? I don't want to start this silly battle here but I will do for the sake maybe more chaps like you will get this message even my original post and my questions will be forbidden. - I'm not preaching, I'm suggesting new rule for the better world we live in. - As I said you did reply with your complains to my previous message instead of answering one of the 11 questions to leave 9 unanswered. - You did your best to make this thread more ugly for everyone to read and spend time reading and not finding it interesting or helpful. In another word, another garbage topic in this forum. - When you complaining about too many questions is have been asked in one place instead leave it unanswered you showing for others what example to follow to make this forum less pleasant. - Moderating the forum is mostly deleting messages like yours that are not really related to the topic. So this is nothing about how long you have been in this forum (even if you are a moderator). - And as I said before, you probably would make more good to me and everyone while posting this in private instead here on this topic. I think it's enough now.
  4. ?Also, if you would't post your complains here, then this forum would be so cleaner to read and find it useful. But instead answering one from 11 simple questions to leave the post with 10 unasnverded you rather not. :)) and probably you will find time tome to reply to my this comment with not really relevant information to the topic, which again could be just better answer another questions and leave with 9 unanswered questions and you would be done about 18% of the all list. Otherwise my topic that I started is also very pointless, same as other people's replies to it. I would suggest a new rule for this forum: that replaying to the topic with complaining about topic or other relevant info would be necessary to reply in private to the person you complain. This would make forum less ugly for future generations.
  5. Peter James and Andyha I would like for sure to buy a pint for you guys. I have to come back later to discus Andyha post, but for now Peter's post for in detail analysis. I know many of you will say that is too many questions to even bother answer them but they actually really simple for security wolfs like you instead replay with irrelevant posts. I would be happy to go some kind of training delay online but I can not find any, than maybe a business plan for any of you ? Ok great. Can I ask more in detail about: - 1. Program the box - is it usually any requirements or plans given of how it must be set? Not how it's done but what exactly must be set specifically? Or usually it's just very standard and general settings and then more done by request? Or it must be given in any sort of paper work? And if - yes, how it looks like? Any examples I can see? - 2. Walk test. Obvious. But all the results must be documented? Or it must just all tested and working? Any form of documents I can find to see? - 3. Checking if items installed properly it's just visual test, with many items that you are not too lazy to check? Correct? ? - 4. How the monitoring setup works? Signing for service, then according the documentation setting up, and calling to the service provider and what? You say - we want to commission the system? The. They say what? Ok for upcoming two hours we ignore any alarms and just sending report that we have received alarms or what? Would be interesting to hear all the story. - 5. Meter readings - again, this must be filed in some sort of sheet. Would be interesting to see one. What to search for? - 6. Calculate battery - for how many hours? This is depends of what? Class of security system or where to see those regulations? - 7. Bell voltage? To meter the voltage on bell contacts? And what is hold off? Engineers link? Hmm seems that I need to come back for this for more in detail. - 8. Signaling equipment? It's a thing what signals to ARC via circular/wired network? Correct? And that's what Do you call STU? - 9. Bell delay time is usually for what reason? - 10. What is a 'Rearm'? - 11. Line fault monitoring? How to understand this?
  6. Can we expand a little bit on some of the things that weren't mentioned by James? 2. Wiring multiple detectors. 'Preset 1' (in the screenshot) is this relates to resistance values Option 01 - 1k from the table 2-7? At the same time, this means that it's Double-balanced type of line? 4. Push to set. I bit doubt bout how the scenario would look like in this configuration? If the button is pushed and all zones in a safe state then system will be set? And if this is true, then, in the same way, the system will be unset just while pushing the same button? How we can call this system safe if anyone can unset the system by clicking the button? Or any other factors must be met? Soon I will test this scenario myself but would be nice to know what to expect instead guessing the correct results. 5. In both tables 2-7 and 2-8, there are two lines named Low Resistance and High Resistance. What this for? Why those are even mentioned? I'm right with saying that is value ranges to avoid false results/alarms?
  7. Thank you. It's about how I understand, just wanted some kind of confirmation. What is 'pts'?
  8. Hi, I have got some questions while reading the manual. As relatively new to this, I need help to understand the following below. All from Honeywell Galaxy Dimension Installer manual pdf here,**link removed** pages 2-14 through 2-16 (until the outputs) 1. Zone wiring types. Fault double-balanced vs. Fault end-of-line Why those two types exist, or brief prehistory? When/why one is used vs another? The only difference I have spotted is that Alarm contacts have a resistor in parallel. Anything to note? 2. Wiring multiple detectors This option has the capability to belong as 500m line instead 100m as in previous examples. Where the hidden point is here for me to understand? There are no different settings to be set to use this option. Only the thing is mentioned in the description that is must be Preset 1. What is preset? And in this configuration, no Fault and/or Anti-Mask detection can't be used? Just because zone won't understand what's happening if multiple detectors activated? Correct? But still, need clarification if this belongs to double-balanced or end-of-line condition, or...? 3. What is Fault detection? I understand what is Alarm, what is Temper and what is Anti-Mask. Not quite sure about the Fault. Is this available on certain sensors only? 4. Key-switches and terminator buttons. So the idea of key-switch is to use one zone and convert it as a control to set the system without fob or keypad just with connecting wires together with the right resistance? Ok, I understand this. This can be useful when integrating the system with other smart things. Now the push-set is a similar thing just not a switch but button? Also could be used to integrate with another system via toggle relay. Where or how else it can be used? Thanks in advance.
  9. I would love to have a pint with you all and have a laugh about how im maybe late in my life thinking about the change. But here I did wrote completely bout different. I think most of you just failing to be on-topic. I have spotted just from day one that in this forum you love to chat for the sake of chatting. So far I have only one reply to my topic which was in private message. Is maybe here anyone wants to change me? I can come to do a week or a couple of weeks for a minimum £/day. So you will have a good couple of hand to help you with little £. Or even for free if you give me value to advance myself in programming, commissioning and fault finding. And I can guarantee/proof that im not a beginner in technology, simply I need a bit real-life scenarios to work on. So I can do home works for the next day to be on the same page. I'm in the London area, so drop me a message. Otherwise let's come back to the topic. Cheers.
  10. Career change, correct. I did some wiring and simple point termination, when working at some electrical companies. I have no problems with electronics. Electronics is my passion / hobby since my 13een's. I can't state that I security engineer whrlen applying for the job as I will fail, but I need a month and I could do most of the tasks on my own. But how to explain to hiring person when you apply to agency? Most of the works listed are through the agencies.
  11. Let's not talk about covid. Let's be on topic. And I think courses running already, also, my preference would be online. Adult, yes. Do I sound like I'm not? ? I'm nearly 40 years old professional with varios sills and knowledge, just when changing job title is not easy to prove to hiring manager that I can show my abilities in Fire & Security field as well.
  12. Hi all, After looking at some job ads, seems that without experience, they don't even look my way to take me on board. So my thinking is to decorate my CV with fire and security-related certifications. Now is a little bit confusing about where to start? I need help to answer some questions. I need your thoughts on: 1. I'm right that fire-related certifications would be more weighty, instead of electronic security courses? 2. If [1] is [yes] then where to go FIA or NSI or somewhere else? 3. How courses from FIA (BS 5839-1 Fundamentals in FD&A Unit 1 / Unit 2) and NSI (Introduction to BS 5839-1:2017 and Basic Fire Detection & Alarm System Design Awareness) are different and which one is right for me? 4. Would be BS 5839-1 Fundamentals in FD&A a good choice? I would like to skip very fundamentals courses as they usually bit boring. 5. FIA training is EXPENSIVE! NSI not listing prices, or I don't understand something? Who knows how NSI pricing it? Where else would be good to look at to have industry known certificates with maybe more friendly prices? 6. FIA courses are reasonably cheaper if you got a membership with them. I'm bit lost with membership pricing too. Which one lowest price membership would be enough to receive a discount on courses? https://www.fia.uk.com/membership/membership-fees.html I have got much more questions, but let's start here. (Maybe I will update the list later on if it's possible to edit the main post after the topic posted?) Thanks in advance for the time you spend for me. P.s. I've seen other topics here related to certifications related to Asbestos Awareness, PASMA, CSCS, ECS etc. but let's not talk about those.
  13. Interesting would be intruder, access and maybe CCTV. Tnx.
  14. Thanks, Peter. This is exactly what I'm looking for, but also I'm in need of more details. Sure most of the things seems just obviuos from high overvew. I understand programing. But for example how is testing done, is there any seaquance sheets that I can find that I could folow? This probably somehow relates to system certification? Also, meter readings probably relates to testing too? So if any one could describe tasks and maybe in details sequeance of the things on that day. That would make me think more.
  15. Jason, did you come up with any finished document? Would you be able to share it?
  16. Hi, I know this is maybe just too obvious for old security wolfs but to taste the real meaning of a commissioning engineer, can you describe your day as a commissioning engineer? What exactly have you done, the tasks and how you explain the time you spend, please? Today or yesterday, or maybe you have more 'tasty' examples from the past? Please go deep in details or technical as you wish. As not professional, I would like to see the colour palette and to feet the taste of it. Thank you very much in advance.
  17. I guess the next step for me is to find out what grades is and what is for. Something else should I look for that relates or maybe not related but goes hand in hand? Thank you.
  18. Do I understand it right that Honeywell 9651 is a Scantronic model? And it is discontinued as it not really appear in official Honeywell UK website search? Also G4 is more as generation 4 of some of the models instead as just one model? Like Optima and Accenta? Cheers.
  19. Thank you very much, this is what I was looking for, to know where I need to get hands-on.
  20. I don't mind of heights, I have previous experience with many things relating to heights., also with IT and AV, and electrics, and component electronics, and many other technologies and I know the industry I know many things, but never worked full time and I haven't done box configuration, so I need to get some practice on this, maybe I will guard my shed and need to find problems to work on, and get comfortable. As otherwise, I have to start as an apprentice but I don't want to. It would be ok for just start but I wouldn't wait a year until my wages reviewed.
  21. Thanks for the interesting review on that, I will keep this in mind. My initial idea is to set up the system to play with, to see how 'difficult' is to be a security engineer. Hopefully, any system will be just fine for that? Also, this is the main reason why it must be as cheap as possible.
  22. Ha. My mistake that supposed to reply to my other post about Galaxy mainboard. My bad.
  23. Also, this is the main reason why it must be as cheap as possible.
