Hi to all,
I was recently called to an address which seemed familiar, when i got there i remembered that it was my first installation as an engineer. The alarm panel was a Metal ADE Logic 4 ( for the newer engineers, yes they used to make them from metal......)
To my surprise it was still going strong.. no problems at all, just needed the back up battery changing.
No matter how much i tried, the couple refused to upgrade, all this new fangled technology is not for them...
I just wondered what is the other installers first panels were???
Great forum love reading the topics ...
My first panel was a Selmar Burglar Alarm from 1975.
The bell box was hammered black and only had a synachrome bell inside.
The panel was hammered black and a circuit test button with a green incandescent lamp under the button.
Next to the button there's a key switch with a red lamp under it. Round the side of the control unit was a flick switch and next to it was a xenon lamp.
It was very simple only having two relays , mains and a micro switch.

I used to have one of those panels. It was 6 zone instead of 4 zone.

Rust caused by boiler steam vent
Your not wrong. There is another one of the same bell box in my area that hasn't rusted so it makes sense that the boiler steam vent would be the cause

The Old Metal Shorrock boxes were around in the 70s, they had a Yale lock on them for access, (all the same key) with a Friedland Bell inside, and a G1470 12v battery (I think) for the SAB module, they were metalic blue, later ones were just navy blue, then a lighter blue.
They were very strong, inside with a metal bar over the bell which the lock operated into. Sadly they were rust buckets, so never lasted long, so doubt any are around now, unless fitted in a sheltered position.
The yale lock was to silence the alarm.

Started in the early 70s doing alarms, lots of tube and wire frames!! painted bell boxes, self recorded tapes for auto dialers, dry batteries even in the SAB, some great panels at that time all key operated, no codes, so read with interest when others talk about the old Shorrok panels and mod 88 units, G Lowe, A&G, AES, Castle, Racel, GGS, to name a few.
What did they call shorrock panels, shorrock Blackburn or something.

Looks C Type? So they where built up from parts like bell, module and strobe.
Strobe unit should have been mounted underneath to deter the cowboys. Although simpler ways of disabling them where found.
It's I think one of the very first polypropylene type c that were made in 85. The strobe is new though so I'm looking for an old one. I'm really trying to look for correct bell because I donto want to stick a tann bell in it and find out its got a master bell.

Also the reason why I stuck the strobe on the front cus I seen one with the strobe at the front. Better safe than sorry.

Kerry springs rely a bell

In all seriousness what do kerry springs even look like? The reason I'm asking is because I've made a panel for the Rely-A-Bell I picked up and It needs some way of sounding the alarm through the panel. I know door contacts work but I need something a bit more authentic.
