  1. I find it hard to believe that an alarm engineer isnt aware of the difference betweena speaker and a sounder or how to turn the chime on a panel they normally install. I think you would benfit from the training courses Tavcom offer. I wasn't impressed with the mains course at all, yet passed with flying colours, they didn't cover the paperwork side very well at all, however the support afterwards asking to clarify a few points did help eventually. Which alarm course/s are you going on?
  2. the final door is entry exit, pir's on the entry/exit route should be guard access. reset the zone program to not used then back to guard access. That should allow you to set the alarm walk past the pir and out of the door, if that's still not helping then need to look at the arming method in more detail.
  3. Think its over complicated, should be able to record anything that you could see or hear without any specialist equipment Which for example means I can see and hear (usually with a window open) my neighbours in their yards, see roof (bungalow next door), but not inside their home from my own windows at my property without using any equipment. I can hear my neighbours through the wall when they raise there voices but that's rare. I can also hear people walking/ driving past if a window is open, I am no more invading their privacy, so I would say those images and audio being recorded are not an invasion of their privacyas they are publically broadcast for anyone to see or hear in the vicinity. The distribution of those images and conversations to anyone else is an invasion of privacy (my neighbour doesn't expect me to film them sunbathing in their back yard and publish on the net for everyone to see). In relation to capturing images and audio of a person or persons committing or believed to be committing a crime, the evidence should be submitted to the relevant authorities and they can deem with how that information is publically shared in order to capture/ eliminate the suspects from the alleged crimes. May be I am thinking this too simply and missing some important points.
  4. Been asked about an install in London NW for the following kit. Its a little out of my way. 5. interesting, I had a new customer a few weeks back that wanted a few things putting right on his Elite 24 after the installer didn't complete some of the programing. That customer got the engineers code off the installer (electrician) who initially refused, so he started going through the process of legal action, the engineer then gave him the engineers code. I explained that the engineers code we have for that system would not be given out but would be defaulted by us remotely upon request for free but we would not be responsible for the system at that point, we will not give the end user the engineers code to maintain the integrity of the system. He then asked if we were no longer trading what would the position be, advised any engineer that knows that system could default the codes if required. Obviously if our code for that system has been removed that system we are no longer responsible. Have to say about 5-10% of the systems I come across tend to be locked.
  6. Good luck, certification as NSI or ssaib requires that you have been trading for so long and have more than one person or a buddy company and you pay an annual fee for the privilege, you can speak with them for more details about that side of things. No one gets torn to shreds on here, unless you let them.
  7. Not meaning to offend, but programming constitutes the biggest downfall on alarms even if they are physically installed correctly. In this case you could have got away with changing nothing other than adding the devices to the panel and the ones you were not using could have been put to not used, put chime on zone 1, the omit 1 attribute on for the landing device and maybe add the odd user and do the time and date, may be put in some zone text. Not sure what else you are adding or how you want to use the alarm, so cant give anything definitive on what should or shouldn't be changed.
  8. Thinking the only way to get this ressolved is you getting professional paid help.
  9. sounds like your fiddling as the guard access zone is set up that way at default and you have turned the attribute off initially and putting it back to the default setting made it function as it was intended.
  10. Have you tried going into engineering via the keypad, putting the zone as not used, then log out, then log back in and put it back to the correct zone type and the wiring type you want?
  11. Just ride it out, 1 weeks notice for 8 years service seems a little strange mind or is that all you have left? I am sure in 8 years you have met enough of their customer base to approach them later if you wanted to set up yourself. Trust is a strange beast, I tend to find the least trusting should be the least trusted, its how there mind works. Personally I would want to know why someone that's been with me so long would want to leave, as it can indicate sometimes that the company is doing something wrong.
  12. Theres 64 tones on the nexus and certainly some are similar but theres more than 4 distinct sounds (you can try the sounds on there website sample files) and if you can have it so it plays a voice message in between so it is very clear what its for, how it compares to the pa well that's another issue. You can even record your own, don't think you can with the sonos range though.
  13. I assure you if its setup correctly it does work you may want to ask their tech guys on how to do this, I haven't used it for a very long time. May be having ago on a platform they suggest to start with just till you get your head round how it works and then apply it across.
  14. Nexus/Sonos Voice sounders from klaxon signals can give mutipul tones and warning messages if remember correctly may want to check with them as to what they have to offer.
  15. cant earn money when your dead (or rather its not much good to you when your dead pr seriously injured and cant work).
  16. you need to ask for the simple protocol and sign an nda, if approved you would be sent the protocol.
  17. adsecurity give us a pm when you have enough posts, I don't have anything at the moment but it may be good to have a chat, Whereabouts in Manchester are you?
  18. @reggie good luck I wouldn't say its an easy process and I am building things up slowly, whilst I get new installs (hardwired and wireless), most work is repairing the f'ups of sparkies and diyer's, along with repairs on older systems. I cant be as fussy as some of these that have large client base already and currently its me only (however I am trying to be more realistic with customers as I can't afford to work for nothing), however it does get busy at times where I consider having some staff/subbies may be useful but there is not enough work yet to sustain them for long enough, just easier when its busy to book people in further into the future.
  19. Try it is the only way to find out. The reality is you may not find it an easy ride, especially if your not being flexible. The tax man wont buy you Jack, but the tools you buy for your work can be off set against your income to lower his tax bill. I would need someone to be desperate for work and would do what jobs I had on my books, not I will do that one but not that, at the moment what jobs come in I do some are great and some are **** but work is work, iif you don't do it you don't get paid. I would like to have someone at the moment that I could phone and they be available at the last minute (but that's unrealistic as they are going to try and get regular work if they can) I may drop lucky with the odd one or two, but would need long term regular work for anyone to be interested also I need someone to build a working relationship with, as I need to be able to trust them. The joys of it all.
  20. I install Texecom and Risco equipment mainly, as for suppliers have to have a look around I use several different suppliers depends on my needs at the time.
  21. They didn't know, I find that hard to believe, but its in the excel and r8+ manuals without checking the exact page it would be under the communications section I suspect. If you get the pdf on the pc, search for it it is there.(well it used to be for sure).
  22. @danevans good luck where are you based and have you looked at the courses from TAVCOM or your local college.
  23. the usb port has just gone on the linx 10, may be unlucky, getting it swapped at the weekend everywhere out of stock again
