  1. So maddi was a supervision fail, is that what you're saying?
  2. Why would detectors have a transceiver then.
  3. There's plenty of van topics here on the back half of vans but none covering the front half, and I spend more time in the front than the back. This is my Astra, its a few years old and still looking like new. On the plastics I use Autoglym interior shampoo, followed by a wipe over with vinyl and rubber care using a microfibre cloth. All courtesy of a Halfords gift voucher last christmas. Its buffed up nicely. Beat that Norman.
  4. I deliberately didnt use the word app! But I know what you mean. But just because install may be easier doesnt mean the systems no longer need installers. Wireless rollout will happen but that fact on its own is largely irrelevant because at the same time I expect the tech gulf to widen between the very low end and the medium (grade 2 if you like) systems. So end users will still need us, probably even more so than now. Look at the Enforcer app, companies can disconnect users who dont pay the annual fee. As a business model its not too dissimilar to monitored alarms, just different tech. Also interesting to me is the fact that Castle charge for the custom plastic face plate (Enforcer) where others print direct onto the standard plastic cases for free. Excellent business thinking, more should do the same. Patience, Mr H, Patience. Efficacy is not yet proven.
  5. I'd put money on anything wired (for detection) being a technological dead end. Lithium battery power is moving fast allowing it to be incorporated into many different platforms and production is ramping up in anticipation of this, examples of this change are all around you in the media - hoovers being the obvious one. I think 3-5 years time we'll be fitting w'free dtecs as standard with all parameters accessable and controlled via the panel/remotely with mesh tech as standard too. Even on new commercial installs.
  6. Its free of charge to the tenant, so no grounds to complain there. The engineer is right. There are no rules/regs for coverage at this level only opinions and assessment, these form the design. The design would have been given to the buyer who must have agreed to it. Its basic, but been done to a price. If you're not happy with the coverage the best option would be to agree to pay for extra to be added. Being wireless its a doddle. I would add that if the back door is not a timed entry zone then it does not need a contact (unless you specifically request it, for a door chime for example), none timed entry routes are usually covered with PIRs as they provide more cover.
  7. Graig, Ive edited your post to remove your contact number, http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/site-rules-and-disclaimer.html To clarify: as per the rules, after 5 posts you are free to exchange details with other members (also having over 5 posts) by PM (private mail)
  8. It a gardtec something or other.Long since passed its change by date.
  9. QFA most domestic cctv jobs are not worth bothering with quoting. We give an estimate over the phone, which gets rid off the dreamers.
  10. True, despite being "an institution" it was long overdue a change in format. I still bought the mug though: http://www.moretvicar.com/collection/viz-magazine-shop/product/viz-the-top-gear-presenter-of-hearts-mug
  11. This is a forum for technical matters, not legal advise, so my advise: 1 - No you can record audio. If the camera is on your property, viewing your property you can record pretty much what you like. Commercial properties are somewhat different. 2 - Dont know, not familiar with that kit. It looks like jonny 5 has got loose again. 3 - Again, not familiar. 4 - If he gave you a written quote listing audio as being included, then I would have thought sale of goods act to start with.
  12. Im the same, I blame my old man as he instilled his values in me. On holidays as a kid he would be on the phone to the office everyday, and was one of the first people to have a mobile phone outside of the M25 which was a car batt with a motorola handset on top. Matt I think you need a deputy, someone keen who can take the strain a bit. Either that or (not being rude here) but live with the fact that you are someone elses deputy. Learn to delegate. There's no sense at all being as plugged in as you are. Edited to add, Kin QFA.
  13. I like Kensington, so that's where I usually stay. Plus its on the circle line so Kingscross, Kensington, Tower etc all easy to do for a novice like me. And I absolutely dont do buses.
  14. DLR goes straight to it, got its own station. I found it alright and Im a public transport novice. Presumably only a problem if you have to go right across London.
  15. Have a look at Systemq, they have some decent stuff. IIRC you will need proof of trade to get prices off them. But other than that IME most ready to fit coverts are too easy to spot and you're better off knocking something up yourself.
