Hikvision AX - canvassing opinions...

Good afternoon all,

The short question is what do people think of the Hikvision AX?

The background goes like this: I had 7 years as a UK installer (but over 10 years ago so things have moved on considerably). I've been asked to install a  domestic intruder alarm for a friend in South Africa (I'm living there now). He didn't put cables in during the build so I'm having to go with a wireless alarm. I'd have gone for Visonic Powermax but it would need importing.

There are quite a lot of Paradox Magellan panels in SA - I've had dealings with a few - they chew batteries and are unreliable. Ajax is an option but I've have no experience of them.

I've fitted Hikvision domestic and recently a bigger CCTV system - the app is appalling. I've had to root my own phone (and embarrassingly customers') just to install older versions of the Hik-Connnect App so they can use remote viewing.

So...am I going to have the same issues with a Hikvision alarm? Does it use the Hik Connect app because if that doesn't work with the alarms in the same way as the CCTV, I'm not touching it. Would be a shame because the alarm looks great and has the hybrid camera/PIR detectors.

Advice and opinions appreciated.

Cheers!

I don't go anywhere near Hik myself.

Most of the people looking for help on here from ZA have been using Texecom with the occasional Honeywell Galaxy so both must be options out there.

Paradox is more of a US/CA brand so not known in UK/EU markets like Texecom or Galaxy.

I really haven't seen much in the way of Honeywell so I wonder where they are getting them. Ideally he would have had wires in place and I'd have fitted a Galaxy - since that's been 80% of my UK alarm experience. I'm not feeling the love for Hik - probably with good reason! Thanks for your response ?

I had a look at Ajax last night. Possible to get most of the devices in SA & decent support network. The major downside is the cost, particularly in SA.

In the UK, they seem to be warrantied only if installed by their approved installer network?? I'm not sure if this applies in SA since the panels and devices can be freely purchased. More digging required...
