Hi

We have a Texecom premier alarm and the hallway pir sensor needs changing. 
 

I resent giving the engineer a small fortune to change a battery (I just saw our electricity bill and mortgage rate rises! but I don’t know the engineer code….

 

if I start to change it and the tamper alarm goes off will my normal code let me reset it or is it an engineer only job?

depends on how its programmed....

 

 

I am sure their electricity bill and mortgage is the same...

It's all down to programming, it maybe locked to cover themselves from any tampering and/or cheap batteries causing damage or fires.

 

If it's a modern version wireless Texecom and user battery replacements are allowed and setup correctly, you can use the "Start Battery Replacement" setting in the Master User Menu.

You will have 60 minutes to replace the batteries and all devices you take apart will be logged.

I never seen that menu  is it on the v6 software?

I appreciate that completely - but their costs have gone up. My salary hasn’t. So sacrifices have to be made. And supporting the alarm company is less of a priority in all honesty than taking my children to do something they enjoy. It’s one or the other….

 

there isn’t a setting in the alarm sadly - I’ve just checked. 
 

when the ivy was growing through the siren box at the front and I pulled the ivy down the alarm went off as it had a tamper fault. It let me put my code in to reset the alarm. Could I do the same with a quick battery change?!

Make sure this is the "Master" user menu not a "Standard" user or Arming Menu. It does have to be allowed by the engineer so may not be there.

If the bell tamper cleared with the user code and nothing has changed it's likely not set for engineer tamper reset then.

Before you start make sure your company doesn't cover these batteries if they have failed mid-term and be aware if you have a contract self replacement may not be allowed.

Companies will monitor battery consumption to detect a faulty component, if you throw mid term batteries in you can mask this issue from them.

If you do still DIY use decent UL listed batteries, you would usually replace all devices at the same time as they will be similar age.

Yes you can change the detector yourself and reset it  as the panel is user reset
