depends on the co and working time directive employee has the right to say no otherwise it's what you feel you can work..is it right? that's the million dollar question

In base terms, there isn't one. There is of course the WTD regulations, unless waivered. Even then, H&S requirements would trump that.

God help any company allowing/forcing people to put in long hours if they have a reportable injury.

Not just an injury, all employers have a duty of care and could be held culpable in the event of an incident.
