Many thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated. I've arranged for a couple of local NSI gold approved companies to come round and give me their thoughts. Whilst it seems a shame to dump a system that the previous owners paid £100s for, my view is you may as well do something properly if you're going to spend the money.

 

Interested in any thoughts on what one would typically expect to pay for a monitoring and maintenance contract from a local installer?

It would really depend on lots of things where you are, how long it would take to do the maint, fully comp or standard, what type of monitoring and so on.If you said between £70-£120 maint and £150.00 to £500.00 monitoring you will be within those figures somewhere  

PS. Does anyone know if it is likely that the Honeywell peripherals used by the ADT system would be interoperable with other panels or are they proprietary?

Assuming they are modern they should work with a galaxy.

re costing as Pete says 'it depends'

eg some companies prefer standard maint. Think is cheaper but doesn't cover parts etc. We offer comprehensive so all parts and labour etc are covered. But this obviously has a higher cost. We also do gold plans which covers everything.

I wouldn't put risco anything and a galaxy classic or dimension in the same sentance. Apart from this one.
