npt yet no, i had to go after i replace the bell so i didnt have much time to look into it. i jus thought i would ask around on here to see if it could save me any time as im not great with alarms.

Hi

From what I hear it may be that all that is wrong is what Mr Happy has referred to namely an adjustment that controls the current to the display.

It may be that it appeared all right at first because the back up battery was not fully charged when you first installed it. All appeared OK until you had your bell nicked which drew your attention to the keypad. With the mains tripping (you being a sparky will know what may be causing that) the rechargeable battery may not have been getting it's full charge until recently.

I don't know if this is the case as I don't use that keypad but some keypads go blank (dead) to conserve batteries power when the voltage falls below a certain level. Yours however seems to be not blank as in dead or not illuminated but just the opposite having all the segments of the display totally powered to the maximum. The fact that the system is working means that the fuses are all intact. Check for any trapped wires behind the keypad as a short circuit to the display could give the symptom. In sparky speak it would be like shorting a dimmer switch so that a light that you want to dim will not dim but won't take the fuse out due to there being a load connected to it, namely the display circuit.

I would also check the charging circuit is functioning properly and that the battery is holding it's charge.

best wishes

Practice in the morning, practice at night. Practice in the evening, until you get it right.

Only make sure you are practising in the right way at the right time for it.

When i first installed it, it didnt have a back up battery and it was a complete setup (obv not). since i went back i installed a new bell and bought a new 12v battery for the pannel. the keypad is near the pannel so im going to replace the cable and see if that cures it.

tbh i'd try a power cycle and a new rkp. I'm pretty sure the keypads use the logic from the panel the same as the led rkp, then changed them to txt.... ie its not an intelligent panel. Its evident when you get 1's and 0's when its activated, its just copying the LED info

sounds like on overlaoad issue. Is the battery sound?
