It raises the overall temperature, reducing humidity, this in turn over time will reduce water ingress into the cable, keeping the signal at optimum levels.

It also helps to stop criminals climbing down the chimney.

Save on wood, use fluke as fuel.

In my opinion i would be best to find the cause rather than just hide it. Might be worth using one to prove if it is a ground loop. But a decent balun has ground loop isolation built in.. so if it is (say nvt) then an isolation tx wont really help much

Have to agree, hiding a fault isnt good practise.
