April 1, 201115 yr comment_272069 Thanks for the info Yep someone earlier on this thread mentioned a "rule of 5" so you`ve just confirmed what I suspected Does anyone know if "unmanaged" switches are all I require? I imagine they are as the router at source will be the "master" with DHCP enabled which will distribute IP addresses and as such only simple unmanaged switches will suffice.......? You're safe with unmanaged. Part of the job of a switch is to sort out the routing - as opposed to hubs which simply broadcast to all devices regardless. April 3, 201115 yr Author comment_272141 Has anyone used these? Would these be suitable for my application? Is there any advantage to using Gigabit switches? Or is it pointless overkill considering it will be cabled in CAT5E? April 3, 201115 yr comment_272151 They will do, and for what its worth I run a TP Link Router at home that has been very reliable. Gigabit will run over Cat5E, chances are it will be overkill in your situation unless the cameras are high megapixel units The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not) Link to comment https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/topic/25752-ip-camera-cabling/page/4/#findComment-272151 Share on other sites Share on LinkedIn Share on X Share on Facebook {lang="reddit_text" Share via email Share on Pinterest
