Pyronix Pcx256

Featured Replies

I've been offered a new Pyronix PCX256 for little more money than a Sterling 10, though I really only need a basic panel for my 3-bed terraced house.

What I'm wondering is whether I would gain anything of value from the better panel, or whether the additional facilities and options would just make installation more confusing for a beginner?

Thanks in anticipation!

I am assuming from your 'name' that you are a beginner when it comes to alarm systems, sorry for that.

The last thing a Pyronix PCX256 is, is a beginner panel, definitely one for the professionals.

Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.

Whatever you get, make sure you have the engineering/installation manual with it!

Thanks for the advice guys. Despite reservations I've been and gone and done it. So watch out for those desperate cries for help - and your chance to say "I told you so".

Yeah but the Sterling is pants. If you study the installation/programming manual you should be able to work it out. Your biggest problem, as with all beginners, is getting your head around how zones are wired with resistors.

I find the programming of a PCX far easier than the Sterling.

cheers

I now have the PCX in my grubby paws, and very nice it looks. I plan to read the manuals from cover to cover before I start.

BTW, is there a convention for which colour wiring cores are used for which functions? Obviously I'll be consistent but I'd like to do it right!

Thanks for the offers of help and support.

Neil

there isnt really a difintive guide i.e green & white = tamper

Devise your own connections and follow them through on all your points :)
